Sports and Snarkyness

Because of my snarkyness now and then towards sports, some people think that I hate shooting sports.

That is just not the case. I really do enjoy shooting sports it’s that I’m just really not a sports “watcher”.

Sure I’ll take in a football game on TV once in awhile while crocheting a scarf or even a few Red Wings games and college football/basketball games in person but I’ve never really been THAT into the game. Let’s face it, if I wasn’t being paid to attend these high school and college games I wouldn’t be there. Those two NCAA tournaments I photographed in Idaho were more stressful then fun, trust me.

(Also I don’t own a single t-shirt, sweatshirt or hat with a sports team logo or mascot on it but that’s just a side note.)

When I worked at the Herald Journal, the Sports Dept. would always ask me all these in-depth questions about the game I had just covered whenever I would return to the office. And by in-depth I mean “So who won?” or “How did so and so do?” My answer was always, “Hey I’m not Eli”- which referenced my co-photographers love for sports and his ability to shoot amazing sports photos while actually paying attention to the number of yards of a running-back, the ERA of the third baseman and the school’s all-time swim meet record.

Now and then I will admit that I didn’t even know what schools were playing (“uh there was the red team and the blue team…”). ;)

When I’m shooting a game I’m really not paying attention to the game. I’m just following the action and trying not to get hit/tackled/skewered by a javelin etc. I do usually know the score (if i have time to stay for the whole game), who had a big game (because of the number of photos i took of them and the action surrounding them) and can tell if a game was “ugly” but that’s about it. Maybe if I were more of a sports “watcher” I would be able to take it all in while shooting.

But I don’t see myself suddenly becoming a Mariners or a Seahawks fan anytime soon.

Plus baseball will always be the devil.

Here are a few photos from the week: yep heavy on the sports since I’m on the sports shift and that’s almost all that I shot and will be shooting next week as well…yay spring sports playoffs!

Not a fan just a once a year game watcher. And yes fun but highly stressful and too much french toast was consumed at all hours of the night. :)

I thought you had become a Mariners fan? And those two trips to Idaho were great. Come on, admit it.
