It’s been an interesting transition here at my current newspaper when it comes to my work schedule.
When I was at the Herald Journal our 3 person photo staff was on a weekly rotation, one person would be on mornings one week, middle shift the next and late shift the week after that. Therefore you shot a little of everything in a month.
Here, my co-photog Larry and I are on a 2 months rotation, which means I hadn’t shot any sports assignments in the 2 months since I was on the day shift. And let me tell you it’s an odd and slightly nerve wracking feeling to be going to an end of the season high school state playoff game and to have only shot 4 basketball games for the whole season. Being “rusty” is always a concern in these situations.
There really was no reason to be stressed about it though, the light in the arena was gorgeous (well gorgeous compared to 99 % of the dungeons we usually shoot hoops in) and truthfully it’s basketball- they drive towards the hoop and I click all while trying to not get hit by a player throwing themselves out of bounds for the ball. It’s not rocket science….
….because it’s more “IMPORTANT” then rocket science since more people read about it then they do those silly rockets and their science stuff (that’s right take that rocket scientists)!
Here are a few shots I liked from the games:
